Edge of Reckoning melepas pegangan. Di Both Hands, single pertama dari Faultlines, Alice Gold sibuk menggenggam orang-orang terdekat dengan dua tangan. Kali ini ia mengangkat kepala dan melihat ke luar.

Lagu ini dibuka dengan ketukan yang melangkah lambat, lalu vokal utama masuk ditemani drum dan petikan yang tenang. Langkahnya dingin dan membumi, longgar tapi tak kehilangan kait, dan bahu kita ikut mengendur. Ia hangat, sekilas mengingatkan pada kejujuran Sharon Van Etten.

Gitar utamanya dimainkan Dan Carey, produser debutnya Seven Rainbows, jadi lagu ini juga sebuah reuni. Reuni kawan lama, bukan reuni SMA yang sibuk membandingkan cicilan (dan foto anak).

Di reff, sepasang hati terbang seperti elang melintasi zaman, lalu Alice Gold bernyanyi “my Love is growing stronger each and every day”. Optimismenya tak naif, karena datang dari orang yang sedang belajar memahami kenapa orang lain melihat dunia secara berbeda.

Bagian akhirnya memutar “Just got to keep trying to understand” berulang-ulang seperti mantra kecil. Ada keyakinan yang pelan tapi keras kepala di sana, dan kita ikut menggumamkannya.

Kalau Edge of Reckoning adalah salah satu jantung Faultlines, album kedua ini kiranya akan berdetak panjang.
