Andrew Shier – Over the Hill

Saya akui, mengulas lagu yang bangga menjadi biasa-biasa saja itu serba salah. Memujinya terlalu tinggi justru mengkhianati isinya.

Over the Hill digubah Andrew Shier setelah lima belas tahun bersama band indie rock Ten Minute Detour, yang dua tahun lalu sempat kita dengar lewat Leading Me On. Santai, tanpa kejutan.

“Maybe it’s alright to be run of the mill”, nyanyinya. Over the hill sendiri ungkapan Inggris untuk orang yang dianggap sudah lewat masa jayanya, dan Shier malah berharap menemukan kebesaran tepat di sana. Optimis betul. Ada jenaka yang sabar di judul itu. Shier juga menganggap kejar-viral dan produksi konten tanpa henti merusak musisi dan karyanya, pendapat yang patut kita aminkan bersama (tak perlu joget di depan kamera tiap pagi).

Kendati begitu, Over the Hill yang merayakan rasa biasa memang terdengar biasa. Kita mendengarnya, tersenyum, lalu kembali ke urusan masing-masing.

Lirik Lagu Andrew Shier – Over the Hill

A step behind, a rung below
No sense in trying, to be in the know
A sense of my personality
What feels good inside is good for me
It’s so hard to be on all the time
Maybe it’s alright to be run of the mill
And maybe I’ll find greatness when I’m
Up over the hill, up over the hill
I’ve had my highs, I’ve hit the ground
I’ve chased the finish line, from town to town
From Halifax to Calgary
I Found the love of my life
She’s good to me
It’s so, nice, to be loved all the time
Maybe it’s alright to be run of the mill
And maybe I’ll find greatness when I’m
Up over the hill, up over the hill
And maybe it’s alright
To be happy most of the time
with one leg in the fight
Maybe it’s alright to be run of the mill
And maybe I’ll find greatness when I’m
Up over the hill (up over)
Up over the hill (up over)
Up over, over the hill
