JW Francis – Scootin’ Boogie

Jalan raya ternyata bisa berulang tahun juga. Scootin’ Boogie adalah kado JW Francis untuk Route 66 yang tahun ini genap seabad, sekaligus single pertama dari album konsep yang seluruhnya membahas jalan itu.

Ia bergulir di tempo sedang yang santai, dengan gitar berdenting renyah khas jangle pop dan tekstur lo-fi yang membuat seluruh perjalanan terdengar seperti direkam di kamar lalu dibawa keluar lewat jendela. Ritmenya tidak terburu-buru mengejar pemandangan, cukup stabil untuk membuat kepala kita mengangguk dari kursi penumpang. Vokalnya kasual, nyaris seperti orang yang bercerita sambil menyetir, dan di bagian reff ia memanjangkan huruf o pada kata scootin’ seenaknya, seperti klakson yang ditekan kelamaan. Ada kegembiraan yang sederhana di sana.

Liriknya mengikuti dua orang yang mengepak hidup ke beberapa kardus, singgah di Tulsa, menghitung uang di kamar motel sambil ditertawakan resepsionis, lalu tiba di LA yang terasa seperti set film. Harta karunnya tidak pernah ketemu, dan kita tidak keberatan.
